The inauguration of the District Disaster Management Committee of the AAK District has taken place at a brief but an eventful inaugural ceremony held at the District Chief Executive's office in Abura Dunkwa.
The District Coordinating Director- Mrs Tawakalitu Raji Addo was elated that the inauguration was a significant step in strenghening the assembly's collective capacity to respond to and manage disasters in AAK.
She stressed that the activation and formal inauguration of the committee has taken place at a time when disaster preparedness and resilience are more critical than ever and that pursuant to NADMO's Act 927, the District Disaster Management Committee of AAK will serve as a cornerstone of coordination, planning and implementation for disaster risk reduction and emergency response.
In his brief remarks, our Regional NADMO Director, Mr E. K. Dawood Mensah stated that ''the inauguration of the District Disaster Management Committee highlights the government's commitment to decentralizing disaster management and empowering local authorities to take charge of their disaster risk reduction efforts.
By prioritizing disaster preparedness and response, this committee will greatly help to save lives, reduce damage, and promote resilience in the District.''
He was full of praise for the District Chief Executive- Hon Daniel Mensah Wardy, the Member of Parliament- Hon Felix Kwakye Ofosu who is also the Minister of Govt Communications and the District NADMO Director- Mr Godfred Dapaah for their proactiveness in adhering to the dictates of Act 927 relative to the composition of the committee as well as their commitment towards NAMDO and Disaster management issues in their district.
Mr Dawood also conveyed the regards of our transformational Director General, Major (rtd) Dr Joseph B. Kuyon to the eminent members of the committee which is chaired by the DCE himself.
The Hon DCE pledged to support the committee to function as required by all relevant legislation, particularly, the NADMO Act of 2016's Act 927 and the Local Govts' Act of 936 with the focus on disaster prevention, mitigation and risk reduction. He was full of praise for the Hon MP of AAK for his direction, leadership and support for all disaster related activities in AAK.
