The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC), on Tuesday, 3rd June, 2025, a key step in advancing the country’s industrialization agenda.
The Minister opined that, with the vast iron ore deposits, Ghana has the potential to build a strong iron and steel industry to support infrastructure, manufacturing, and job creation.
At the inauguration, Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah called on the Board to prioritize the development of iron ore resources, establish processing plants, attract responsible investors, and align sector policies with the global green energy transition.
Strengthening local content and regulating the scrap metal trade were also highlighted as key goals.
The Board’s leadership will be crucial in unlocking Ghana’s iron and steel potential for sustainable national development, the speaker emphasized.
Chairman of the GIISDEC Board, Mr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, on behalf of the Board, pledged to work collaboratively with the Ministry with the highest standards of integrity to ensure a strong corporate governance and transparency is achieved every level.
