The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, paid a working visit to the historic Lighthouse monument in Cape Coast. The visit formed part of broader efforts to enhance the city's tourism potential and promote economic growth through improved infrastructure.
During the visit, the MCE assessed the current state of the road leading to the Lighthouse, which has long been in need of rehabilitation. He emphasized the strategic importance of the monument, not only as a heritage site but also as a potential driver of economic activity if made more accessible to both domestic and international tourists.
Hon. Arthur engaged with technical officers and stakeholders on the possibility of reconstructing the road to improve connectivity to the site. He noted that restoring access to the Lighthouse could significantly increase visitor traffic, stimulate local businesses, and reinforce Cape Coast’s reputation as a hub of historical and cultural tourism.
"As a city rich in history, we must ensure that our monuments and heritage sites are not only preserved but made easily accessible.
Rehabilitating the road to the Lighthouse will open up opportunities for job creation and community development," the MCE stated.
The visit reflects the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly’s ongoing commitment to revitalizing tourism infrastructure and leveraging the city's cultural assets for sustainable development.
