Earlier yesterday morning, the Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, inaugurated the Cape Coast Metropolitan Disaster Management Committee at the Assembly’s premises. The committee is made up of representatives from key security agencies, officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and selected technical staff of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly.
The establishment of this committee is part of a broader strategy to enhance the city's preparedness and response to emergencies and disasters. In his address, Hon. Arthur emphasized the growing need for coordinated and proactive action to mitigate risks associated with flooding, fire outbreaks, and other climate- and infrastructure-related hazards.
He charged the committee to assess vulnerabilities across the Metropolis and develop strategic response plans that prioritize public safety and community resilience. The Mayor further assured members of the committee that the Assembly will provide the necessary support—both logistical and administrative—to enable them to function effectively.
The newly inaugurated committee will be responsible for coordinating emergency response efforts, conducting public education and sensitization, and engaging communities to strengthen disaster resilience at the grassroots level.
Hon. George Justice Arthur reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a safer and more resilient Cape Coast through forward-thinking policies, collaborative leadership, and sustained investment in disaster risk management.
