Yesterday, the Mayor of Tamale, Hon. Alhaj Abu Takoro, warmly received Mr. Mohammed Alidu, the Northern Regional Coordinator of the National Apprenticeship Programme, during a courtesy call at the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly.
The purpose of the visit was twofold: to formally express appreciation for the Mayor’s continued support, and to update him on the remarkable strides made so far in the implementation of the programme, as well as upcoming plans aimed at expanding training opportunities for the youth across the region.
In his remarks, Mr. Alidu highlighted the transformative impact the Apprenticeship Programme is already making—providing technical and vocational skills to many young people and preparing them for sustainable livelihoods. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that no willing youth is left behind in the ongoing drive to equip the next generation with practical, employable skills.
Hon. Abu Takoro commended the Regional Coordinator for his proactive leadership and reiterated his unflinching support for the programme. He acknowledged the critical role such initiatives play in addressing youth unemployment and poverty, and pledged to use his office to facilitate stakeholder cooperation, resource mobilization, and public awareness in support of the programme's objectives.
The Mayor further emphasized that skills development remains one of the key pillars for regional development and pledged to champion the programme at both the local and national levels. He encouraged other stakeholders, including traditional leaders, assembly members, and community-based organizations, to rally behind the initiative for the collective good of the region.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill, cooperation, and a shared vision for a skilled, self-reliant, and empowered youth population in the Northern Region.
