The Commercial Banks in Ghana must desist immediately from reintroducing E-Levy charges on Bank-to-MoMo Transactions. The Gallant Cadres of the NDC see the act as robbery and an affront to the financial laws of Ghana.
It was very refreshing when the President announced the scrapping of the infamous, draconian E-Levy tax introduced by the previous administration — fulfilling a promise made to the good people of Ghana.
The E-Levy was officially and effectively cancelled on 2nd April 2025.
Just as the people of this country were rejoicing over this great relief initiated by the President, it was observed that some banks “Nicodemusly” reintroduced charges to fill the E-Levy space for Bank-to-MoMo transactions.
The effect of this singular move has had a negative impact on mainstream financial inclusion, as the banking sector recorded a significant GHS 5 billion drop in total deposits over the period.
These banks seem to forget that this trend could also affect their lending capabilities, ultimately impacting access to credit for businesses.
The John Mahama-led Reset Agenda requires deliberate and collective effort from banks and other well-meaning institutions in Ghana, and we call on everyone to demonstrate true patriotism.
We wish to appreciate the GPRTU, GUTA, and other associations/unions who have swiftly and positively responded to the growing economic gains of our dear nation.
