According to a recent opinion poll conducted by the Data Analytical Institute (DAI), Hon Samuel Kwame Borlu has emerged as the frontrunner in the NDC Western Regional Chairmanship Race.
Among the three prospective candidates, the results are as follows:
1. Hon Samuel Kwame Borlu secured 40%.
2. Nana Kojo Toku garnered 31%,
3. Hon. George Arthur obtained 14%, and
4. 15% of respondents remained undecided.
The poll, which sampled approximately 1,000 NDC members across the region, indicates a Hon Samuel Kwame Borlu takes an early lead in the chairmanship contest.
As per the survey, Hon Samuel Kwame Borlu secured 400 votes, representing 40% of the votes, while the incumbent Regional Chairman polled 310 votes, representing 31%. Hon. George Arthur trailed behind with 140 votes, representing 14%.
However, a substantial number of respondents, 150 (15%), declined to disclose their preferences. The survey highlights that Hon Samuel Kwame Borlu, the current Regional Vice Chairman, holds a margin of 9% lead in the competitive elections scheduled for November this year.
Notably, a significant proportion of respondents remained undecided, rendering the outcome of the Regional Chairmanship contest unpredictable, as this demographic could potentially sway the balance of power.
Other survey results are as follows:
Regional Secretary
1. Ebenezer Essien 430 (43%)
2. George Dadzie Jnr. 270 (27%)
3. Michael Otoo 180 (18%)
4. Undecided 120 (12%)
Regional Organizer
1. Haruna Moro Azika 510 (51%)
2. Charles Adu-fordjour 340 (34%)
3. Mohammed Younus 50 (5%)
3. Undecided 100 (10%)
The survey, conducted from April 15th to April 25th, 2026, focused on the opinions of NDC members regarding their preferred Regional Chairman and other positions.
The contestants for the other positions are not clearly defined. Nonetheless, Alhaji Mustpha Iddrisu, the incumbent Regional Youth Organizer, appears to be in a strong position to contest for the Regional Vice Chairman role, given his substantial backing from the youth and party grassroots. It would not be surprising for his commanding lead if he were to officially declare his intention.
As the time of the survey, Richard Kirk-Mensah, the incumbent Regional Communication Officer enjoyed massive support from the rank and file of the party. The current Regional Women Organizer, Madam Gladys Egyin, is likely to face minimal opposition. Abdul Hakeem Mahama, Deputy Regional Youth Organizer, seems poised to succeed his superior as the next Regional Youth Organizer. Nevertheless, speculation suggests that more individuals are exploring opportunities.
Therefore, series of opinion polls will be conducted, given the highly competitive nature of the chairmanship contest and other positions. The poll, based on the current delegate list, will be conducted soon to gauge their sentiments on the chairmanship race.
Again, upon completion of the constituency elections, another poll will be conducted ahead of the regional executive elections in November, 2026.
