In line with the resolve of President John Dramani Mahama's transformational government in combating avoidable flooding disasters headlong as being implemented by NADMO Ghana under the visionary leadership of our Director General, Major (rtd) Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, NADMO Central has taken the fight against avoidable flooding to Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of Central Region where some unpatriotic citizens and criminally minded developers have resorted to illegal reclamation of land on watercourses or lands along streams/rivers which are natural buffer zones.
Their activities over the years have negatively impacted the strides Government through NADMO and the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly have been making to ensure the free flow of water during the raining season to prevent any hydrometrological disaster in Mankessim- which is naturally a low lying town in the Mfantseman Municipality.
Consequently, NADMO Central led by our Regional Director, Hon Kwesi Dawood and the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Eric Stanley Acquah have initiated a serious clampdown on the activities of these unpatriotic & criminally minded developers engaging in the illegal land reclamations.
This exercise, which commenced on Monday, June 16, 2025, forms part of a broader government initiative to reclaim encroached lands, an effort to restore natural watercourses, and mitigate the impact of flooding in the Region.
The Regional NADMO Director reminded residents and stakeholders in Mankessim that flooding can strike at anytime without warning, hence, the need for all to join in the fight against individuals and activities that causes avoidable floods.
He urged all to be vigilant in spotting such saboteurs, record their activities and report by way of videos or audios or pictures to NADMO via WhatsApp number- 0504953200 to help make a difference. He warned that anyone or developer caught engaging illegal reclamation of land in watercourses etc or dumping waste into drains to cause blockage, shall be arrested and prosecuted by the relevant authorities.
Hon Kwesi Dawood and the team from NADMO Central further engaged staffs of the Mfantseman NADMO under the leadership of Hon Christian Abeiku Yankson and the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly at Saltpond where activation of the Municipal Disaster Management Committee, welfare of staffs and further flood prevention activities ahead of the rains was discussed.
